The Banner-General was a rank in the armies used during the period a few centuries before the Trolloc Wars until the War of the Hundred Years that commanded a number of troops known as a Banner. This comprised of either 1500 horsemen or 3000 infantry.
In the WestlandsEdit
The Westlands has seen a revival of this military rank through the Band of the Red Hand. At last count, the Band had six banners of horse, five of foot and one of masons. Not counting 4000 additional mounted crossbowmen, that gives the Band twelve men of the rank of Banner-General.
The following Band of the Red Hand officers hold, or have held, the rank of Banner-General during the course of the series.
- Daerid Ondin - promoted to Lieutenant-General.
- Talmanes Delovinde - promoted to Lieutenant-General.
- Nalesean Aldiaya - killed by a gholam.
- Estean Andiama - presumably, since he was left in charge of those of the Band still in Murandy.
- Edorion Selorna
The Seanchan, unlike those in the Westlands, have maintained their military structure unbroken over these last thousand years, along with the rank of Banner-General. Presumably there are many more Banner-Generals now than there were arrived from Seanchan due to the swelling of the ranks of the Ever Victorious Army with troops born in the Westlands.
