"I've just spent twenty minutes explaining to Mistress al'Donel that I can do nothing about the storks."
   —Bran al'Vere
For others with the same surname, see al'Vere.

"Bran" al'Vere, full name Brandelwyn al'Vere, is the Mayor of Emond's Field, in the Two Rivers. Egwene al'Vere is one of Bran and Marin's children.

Appearance[]

With sparse gray hair and a round face, he has the look of many innkeepers: wearing an apron that strains over his wide girth. Surprisingly, he walks lightly for a man of his size. On special occasions, he wears a silver medallion of scales, the symbol of the office of Mayor.

History[]

Bran was born in 937 NE, married his wife Marin in 964 NE, and was elected Mayor of Emond's Field in 978 NE.

As the village Mayor and the head of the Village Council, people are always taking their problems to Bran for solving. He is also the owner of the Winespring Inn, which he runs with the help of his wife, Marin. The cellar of the inn contains many barrels of brandy and ale made by Bran, and sometimes apple cider or apple brandy made by Tam al'Thor, and delivered every year about Bel Tine.

Activities[]

He is part of the Village council, which is in session when Padan Fain arrives.

Bran tells Perrin of the death of his entire family when he arrives at the Winespring Inn with Faile.[1]

Bran tells Dain Bornhald that there will be no arrests, no intimidation or other trouble from the Whitecloaks while they are in the village defending against the Trollocs.[2]

He helps defend Emond's Field against the invading Trollocs.[3]

Etymology[]

His name is an allusion to the Baranduin River (more commonly called the Brandywine River) of Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien.

In the television series[]
