Calian the Chooser

Calian the Chooser is one of the Heroes of the Horn. She is sister to Shivan the Hunter; both are only born at the end of an Age. She rides with a red mask. She appears when Mat blows the Horn of Valere at Falme.

Calian is a parallel of the Hindu goddess Kali. She is a goddess of death and destruction, symbolising the destruction of the previous Age, and is today considered as a goddess of time and change, symbolising her role in bringing a new Age. She is revered as Bhavatarini - literally "redeemer of the universe". She is also represented as the consort of the god Shiva, who is the parallel to her brother, Shivan the Hunter.
