[edit] Expansion of displayed text

For lack of a better place to raise this, I'll do so here. Does anyone have any objections to having the displayed text of the book templates show the full title? eg. {{kod|31}} producing "Knife of Dreams, Chapter 31" rather than "KOD 31".

Given that most of the time these templates are being used in the references sections, there seems little benefit in having them condensed. --TheParanoidOne 20:49, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

I was thinking the other day about having two sets: One {{KOD}}, for example, which would expand to the full title, and autoinclude <ref> tags. The other, what we currently have at {{kod}}, would maintain the shortform reference. Thoughts? I've been too busy at work lately to implement this, but I'm glad you mentioned it... -- nae'blis 15:02, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
or the other way around. Or we could shift entirely away from using the condensed form anywhere, but that might make things like KOD Prologue hard to do... -- nae'blis 15:03, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I have three points: --Gherald 19:30, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
  1. This did appear to be a good idea and we have had {{2}}, {{3}}, etc. for the long version (they can be substituted or not). But I never found them useful, and I never saw anyone else use them. It seems that if you want the long version you may as well just type Knife of Dreams/Chapter 31 as it looks about as reasonable and makes more sense to future editors.
  2. Having KOD be distinct from kod might be confusing, especially since the lowercase template would display the uppercase abbreviation..
  3. I think we should look into never using <ref>s when they only contain a summary name (be it the short or long version), because the resulting Notes section is rather cumbersome. So I am testing an alternative at {{1}} and would appreciate comments.
