Cathal Devore is an Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah from Ghealdan[1].

Appearance and Personality

Cathal was tall for a woman at about 5'9" to 5'10", and she was lanky and bony in build. She was awkward, physically, often dropping things. She had dark brown hair that she wore drawn back with combs, and hazel eyes.

She blinked a great deal, as if she could not understand. In fact, she was a keen observer with an analytical mind—at least, when she had a reason to be interested in what was going on—and not nearly so retiring and half-asleep as she seemed.

She could recall every word she heard, word for word, even after a considerable time, a gift useful mainly when she could not take notes right away.

Strength and Abilities

In "The Wheel of Time Companion" her strength level is described as 17(5), strong enough to open a suitable gateway to Travel and a high rank in Aes Sedai hierarchy.

History

Cathal is 58 years old. She was born in 942 NE and went to the White Tower in 957 NE. After nine years as a novice and eight years as Accepted, she was raised to the shawl in 974 NE.

She was Accepted when Elaida a'Roihan became a novice, and watched Elaida rise faster than she did; she was not envious, though she did regard Elaida with a mix of personal dislike, awe and fear.

She taught Moiraine Damodred and Siuan Sanche and was proud of their quick rise. She was uncertain about Siuan being Amyrlin so young, but kept quiet.

Unlike most Browns, she paid attention to political matters and felt that Siuan's deposing was a coup. She was a historian, with possibly as wide a knowledge of False Dragons as anyone living at the time, perhaps wider than anyone else.

She had a Cairhienin Warder.

Activities

She has allied herself with the Salidar Aes Sedai and was one of the ten ferrets sent to the White Tower to spread the rumoor that the Red Ajah set Logain up as a False Dragon.[2]

When Zerah Dacan is found out to be a Salidar spy, she gives up Cathal's name as well. Cathal Devore was so part of the group that was trying to hunt down the Black Ajah[3]. When Meidani Eschede was freed from her oath of obedience, it can be assumed Cathal was as well.

Particularity of this character

Cathal Devore is described only in "The Wheel of Time Companion", she is never mentioned in the main books of the Wheel of Time.
