She has been Aes Sedai as long as Elaida had been alive i.e. about 50 years
[edit] Activities
She returns to the White Tower from the debacle of Dumai's Wells in the early hours of the morning to give Elaida do Avriny a'Roihan the bad news that Rand al'Thor had escaped.
She stands highest among the twelve sisters that intitially returned back to Tar Valon. Elaida has her and her group stay away from the White Tower to hide her secrets and stay in the village of Dorlan.
Later, Tarna Feir arrives in Dorlan and displaces Covarla as leader of the group.
Later on, Elaida avoids blame for Dumai's Wells when it shifts to Galina Casban. This would therefore remove any reason for Covarla and the other sisters to stay hidden. Presumably, they made their way back to the Tower, although there exists the possibility that Elaida wants to hide the fact that she wanted them to stay away from the Tower.
