The Crown High Council is the governmental body which rules the kingdom of Ghealdan in the name of the King or Queen. The Council sees to the day-to-day running of the kingdom and consists of a council of nobles and merchants.
The Council was founded by Lady Valera Prosnarin, Lord Cynric Talvaen and Lady Iona Ashmar, who along with Lord Kirin Almeyda had established Ghealdan during the latter part of the War of the Hundred Years. Almeyda became King and his companions became his closest advisors. As the centuries passed, additional houses gained seats on the Council.
If the King or Queen dies without issue, the new ruler is elected from within the ranks of the Council. Traditionally, the Council's power has been secondary to that of the ruler and the elite military forces, the Legion of the Wall. However, the chaos brought about by the arrival of the Prophet of the Dragon in the kingdom saw several rulers topple in rapid succession and the Legion disband at Masema's order. Queen Alliandre Maritha Kigarin was not permitted to reconstitute the Legion. After Alliandre departed Ghealdan with Lord Perrin Aybara on a mission to bring the Prophet to heel, the Crown High Council assumed full control of the country until her return.
The Crown High Council is unaware that Alliandre has both reconstituted the Legion of the Wall under First Captain Gerard Arganda and sworn fealty to the Dragon Reborn, Rand al'Thor, through his representative, Perrin.
