Elsalam was a kingdom of the Free Years. It was founded after the end of the Trolloc Wars, and was established on the former territory of Aramaelle. It was later absorbed by the growing might of Artur Hawkwing's Empire. Elsalam was one of the Borderlands in its day and also a militarily strong nation. The lands it once held are now controlled by Kandor and the western half of Arafel, as well as lands to the south that are now wilderness.
Elsalam was bordered by the Plain of Lances in the west, the Blight in the north, and the River Antaeo and the Black Hills to the south. Its eastern border was approximately halfway between the River Mora and the next tributary of the Erinin to the west.
Elsalam's neighbors were Basharande to the west, Oburun, Roemalle, and Tar Valon to the south, and Rhamdashar to the east. The River Erinin linked Elsalam to the southern kingdoms and was a major trade route.
Relatively little is known of Elsalam, save that it had a strong martial tradition and sent troops to fight the false Dragon Guaire Amalasan in the War of the Second Dragon. It was later conquered by Artur Hawkwing and made part of his empire as the provinces of Kandor in the west and Arafel in the east. Lady Mahira Svetanya and Lord Jarel Soukovni, the governors of Arafel and Kandor respectively, declared their lands to be sovereign nations shortly after Hawkwing's death and made an alliance with the other Borderland kingdoms to stand against any threat from the south as well as from the Blight during the subsequent War of the Hundred Years.
