Emond's Field is located in the Two Rivers region, in the western part of Andor. Its inhabitants are generally unaware of belonging to any kingdom or country, however, since they have not seen a representative of the Queen's Guard in generations, either for taxes or protection. Historically, the area was once the capital of Manetheren, until it was destroyed during the Trolloc Wars. It is now primarily a farming village, raising sheep and growing tabac.

[edit] Government

The village of Emond's Field, as well as most near the Mountains of Mist in Andor, have a gender-based bicameral government. There is a Women's Circle, which is headed by the Wisdom, and a Mayor who heads the Village Council, made up of men. Each group claims "exclusive" jurisdiction over certain areas of village life, and they often feud and argue about decisions. It appears to be almost a tradition for some argument to manifest itself in any situation that arises, lest one group gain primacy over the other.

[edit] Winternight

On Winternight of the year 998 NE, a hundred or more Trollocs attacked Emond's Field. Ultimately, 10-15 people were killed, and many houses were destroyed, but thanks to the help of an Aes Sedai and her Warder more damage was avoided. After these events, the Aes Sedai informed three young men (Rand al'Thor, Matrim Cauthon, and Perrin Aybara) that they were to leave with her becasue they were in danger, and the Trollocs attacked because of their presence. At first they all argue, but eventually leave with her, along with Egwene al'Vere and Thom Merrilin, a gleeman. Later, Nynaeve al'Meara, the Wisdom of Emond's Field, catches up to them to try and take them home; in the end, she goes along with them on their adventures.

[edit] Trolloc invasion

After the fall of the Stone of Tear, Padan Fain attempts to draw Rand home to his doom by harassing the Two Rivers, and Emond's Field in particular, with waves of trollocs. Perrin responds instead, being more free to leave than either Rand or Mat, and becomes a hero to his fellow villagers by helping repel and ultimately destroy the trolloc invaders. His victory echoes the death of King Aemon of Manetheren, only with happier results. After this, his former friends and elders begin to call him "Lord Perrin Goldeneyes", which causes him no end of consternation.

[edit] Backwoods no longer

After the trollocs are dealt with, the villagers are surprised to find refugees from the troubles to the south and west coming over the Mountains of Mist into their tiny hamlets and villages. Although they bring an initial strain on the ability of the region to support so many people, the additional skills and trades they bring in promise to make Emond's Field and the Two Rivers a much more worldly location. Already they have affected local fashion and custom in ways that alarm some of the more conservative residents.

[edit] Notes

I live in the Two Rivers. Check a map.
