Ewin Finngar is a teenager from Emond's Field in the Two Rivers. In his childhood he was a younger friend to Rand al'Thor and Matrim Cauthon; the later of whom would occasionally make Ewin the target of pranks and practical jokes.
In the spring of 998 NE Ewin was a short, highly excitable pudgy-faced fourteen-year-old. Other boys generally saw him as a squeaky little nuisance who tried to crowd in whenever older fellows got together. By the summer of 999 NE, just a little more than year later, Ewin had changed considerably; developing a leaner face, wider shoulders, a bass voice, and growing a full half-foot taller.
On the day before Bel Tine in 998 NE, Ewin became enamored with a mysterious female visitor to the village who arrived with a male companion. He rushed to the cellar of the Winespring Inn in order to gossip about these strangers to Mat and Rand. Ewin was later gifted a silver penny from the visitor and decided not to spend it. That same day when Padan Fain arrived in Emond's Field, Ewin interrupted Fain's storytelling about Logain Ablar and was nearly cuffed by Cenn Buie who wanted him to remain silent while elders were speaking.
The next year in 999 NE Ewin became one of the early followers of Perrin Aybara who had returned to the Two Rivers with Faile Bashere. Ewin helped to carry Perrin into the Winespring Inn after the Waterwood Skirmish. At first, Perrin did not recognize Ewin, but later marveled at how much Ewin had grown in just over a year. Later Ewin participated in the Battle of Emond's Field where he helped defend the north perimeter of the village.
