Forkroot
From A Wheel of Time Wiki
Forkroot is a herb with the ability to block an individual's ability to touch the One Power. In larger doses it also incapacitates and eventually renders the channeler unconscious. Forkroot does not affect non-channelers in the same way. A person who cannot channel can consume far greater quantities of Forkroot with vastly reduced side affects. The amount needed to knock out a channeler would barely affect some one unable to touch the True Source. It remains to be seen if forkroot will affect men who can channel, or whether it will block the use of the True Power taken from the Dark One.
[edit] Usage
The effects of forkroot were discovered by Ronde Macura. She used it on Elayne Trakand and Nynaeve al'Meara in Mardecin. Nynaeve in turn used forkroot tea on Moghedien in Tel'aran'rhiod, causing the physical effects to take hold of her body in the waking world in Salidar.
[edit] By the White Tower
Later Ronde Macura tells the White Tower about forkroot. With this knowledge Elaida orders Joline and Teslyn to use it to capture Elayne and Nynaeve. But instead Teslyn uses the forkroot on Joline to prevent her from interfering in Elayne and Nynaeve's escape from Ebou Dar.
Forkroot becomes common knowledge in the White Tower which annoys Elaida. Elayne later has her tea spiked with forkroot by Daved Hanlon. Nynaeve overcomes the effects of forkroot on Elyane with other herbs.
After being captured at the Northharbor, Egwene al'Vere is drugged with forkroot and the Tower continues to drug her with it so she can barely channel.
[edit] By the Seanchan
The Seanchan also use forkroot to detect and capture men and women who can channel. The Seanchan are producing forkroot in Almizar and it is there Perrin and Tylee go to obtain large quantities of forkroot which they in turn dump into the aqueduct that leads to the cistern in Malden. Morgase collapses after drinking the water laced with forkroot.
