Hamarea was a kingdom of the Free Years. It was founded after the end of the Trolloc Wars, and was established on the former territory of Almoren. It was later absorbed by the growing might of Artur Hawkwing's Empire. Hamarea was counted as one of the most militarily powerful nations of its day, despite its small size and remoteness. The lands it once held are now partially controlled by Cairhien, but are mostly wilderness.
Hamarea stretched from the River Erinin in the north to the River Gaelin in the south, and was bordered by the Spine of the World to the east and the major southern tributary of the Erinin to the west. It lay on either side of the eastern half of the mountain range known as Kinslayer's Dagger. Its neighbors were Rhamdashar to the north, Ileande to the west, and Tova to the south. The Aiel Waste lay to the east.
Relatively little is known of Hamarea, save that it had a strong martial tradition and sent troops to fight the false Dragon Guaire Amalasan in the War of the Second Dragon. It was later conquered by Artur Hawkwing] and made part of his empire. The Battle of Talidar was fought on Hamarean soil in FY 987. During the War of the Hundred Years Hamarea's territory became divided between the growing kingdom of Cairhien in the south and Hardan in the north. After Hardan collapsed Cairhien attempted to absorb its territory, but was unable to hold it and retreated to the south of Kinslayer's Dagger.
