Help:Cleanup

From A Wheel of Time Wiki

When an article is tagged with the Template:cleanup tag, it means that someone has spotted something wrong with the article, but was unable/unwilling to take care of it at the time. The tag allows all such articles to be collected in Category:Cleanup, so if you are looking for something to do, you can start there!

Some common types of tasks to be cleaned up follow, together with advice on how to handle them.

  • Harmful content (nonsense, personal essays/opinions in inappropriate places, accuracy problems, or severe unedited bias): may be fixed by paring down content until nothing objectionable remains. Also, you may choose to move the information to an article or section of the article where it makes more sense, in the case of rampant fan speculation/opinion.
  • Unrelated articles/pages/images: Take the issue to project:Pages for deletion if it is borderline, otherwise contact one of the Administrators to get them to delete the offending page. If it isn't deleted it will generally be moved back here, hopefully already somewhat improved.
  • Poor quality article/page: Be bold; try to improve it! Cleanup can be hard work, but the end result is a vastly improved wiki and a better experience for both readers and editors.
  • Raw text dump (no wikilinks or wiki markup - remove only after the article has been wikified, reworded with better style, verified for accuracy, weeded for useless or unremarkable information, and checked for copyright violations.
  • Expansion of a stub article: Most requests of this sort can be improved on within a short time frame, and other editors can help later if you lack sufficient expertise to improve that particular article significantly.
  • Long-term reworking, completion of a list, etc: Do what you can, and other editors will do what they can. The strength of a wiki is its collaborative effort; with many hands doing the work, the entire task becomes easier for everyone.
