High Chant is most commonly used by bards in the service of kings, lords, nobles and various other high class figures. It is very poetic in form (usually rhyming, but free verse forms do exist) and must be recited word for word. High Chant stories are often very detailed and long, and as such are rarely found being told in lower class areas.

Though many epics and heroic stories are found in High Chant (often doubling stories written in Plain Chant), philosophy, ideas, feelings and emotions are just as common (and are rarely found in Plain Chant). Stories in this form are regularly set to music, but are usually spoken over the top and not sung. If sung it is usually an arrangement by the performer (often improvised) and not written down permanently.
