Summary[]

Point of view: Rand al'Thor

Rand and Loial talk about the information Loial wants for his book on the Dragon Reborn. Nynaeve and Alivia are present along with two of the fifty Aiel Maidens that arrived.

When Loial mentions Mat and Perrin, Rand experiences visions of them. Mat is riding through a forest with mounted men following. Perrin is in a tavern talking with a man and woman dressed oddly. He also gets a vision of the man who saved his life in Shadar Logoth when he fought Sammael. However, he doesn't know who the man is.

Logain returns and reports half the Asha'man, including all of those bonded to Aes Sedai, are now in Arad Doman and Illian now. Arad Doman is in chaos with no one really in charge but Rhuarc is putting things in order. He then gives warnings about Mazrim Taim, his special Asha'man and students, and the internal factions within in The Black Tower. Logain suspects that Taim is a Darkfriend but Rand is not convinced. Verin confirms that events clearly indicate Tarmon Gai'don is approaching. Rand is still planning to make a truce with the Seanchan despite opposition from others in his party.

Loial is surprised by a visit from his mother, Elder Haman and Erith, his wife-to-be. He worries that Erith will have him return to Stedding Tsofu and he won't be able to finish his book. Rand is warned by Nynaeve that a terrible storm is coming. He wonders if this refers to Tarmon Gai'don or something else.
