Mirrors of the Wheel is a book written before the Breaking of the World. It describes the alternate worlds behind Portal Stones. Selene says to Rand that some of those worlds were like mirrors, especially those without people. Some reflected only great events that occurred in their own world, whereas some had a shadow of the reflection even before the event occurred.[1] [2]
It is possible that Loial has seen a few pages of a copy of this book. He states that there was a drawing of a stone which looked very much like a Portal Stone and underneath it said: "From Stone to Stone run the lines of 'if', between the worlds that might be." Some part provided information about that powerful Aes Sedai of AoL could use them. He did not understand all information but tried to explain it to Rand.
"Most of it sounded like this. 'If a woman go left, or right, does Time's flow divide? Does the Wheel then weave two Patterns? A thousand, for each of her turnings? As many as the stars? Is one real, the others merely shadows and reflections?' ." [3]
