Narenwin Barda is an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah.

Appearance

She is thin, very short and with a square face. She usually is so quiet that people could forget she was there; she was also mousy around other sisters.

Strength and abilities

In "The Wheel of Time Companion" her level of strength is described between 18(6) and 19(7) which is enough to open suitable gateways to Travel by herself. This is also quite a high level in Aes Sedai hierarchy.

Being a Yellow sister also usually indicates a skill in Healing.

History

Narenwin is 87 years old; she was born in 913 NE and went to the Tower in 928 NE. After spending twelve years as a novice and eight as Accepted she was raised to the shawl in 948 NE.

For a time she was the assistant to the head of the Yellow Ajah eyes-and-ears; during that period she recruited Ronde Macura as a spy and punished her severely for asking about the Black Ajah.

She later became head of the Ajah eyes-and-ears system, and she has been so for years, rising high in the Yellow hierarchy.

Once a week Narenwin would allow children to bring their pets to her in the Tower, so that she could heal them.

She has no Warder.

Activities

During the Aes Sedai Schism Narewin stayed in the White Tower accepting Elaida's leadership.

Ronde Macura reported to Narenwin as an eyes-and-ears in Mardecin, Amadicia.[1]

Nynaeve and Elayne were sure that Ronde Macura would report them to Narenwin so they changed their plans and adopted disguises. [2]

She was sent by Elaida to Dorlan to take command of the Aes Sedai there. She also gave orders to Gawyn Trakand and the Younglings from Elaida[3]: they have to take guerilla actions against the rebel army, with the aid of the sisters there.

Some weeks later Narenwin met Katerine Alruddin, who Traveled back from the White Tower to Dorlan to inform the sisters in the village that the rebels' Amyrlin Seat, Egwene al'Vere, had been captured.[4] Katerine also taught them the weaves for Traveling so they could be more effective against the rebels.

But Gawyn also heard from Katerine the news about Egwene and left Dorlan suddenly, leaving Narenwin without the captain of her troops.
