Owyn was Thom Merrilin's nephew.

He was a man who could channel but instead of being taken to the Tower as required by Tower law, he was Gentled on the spot by sisters of the Red Ajah. He was forced to leave his home by his friends and died very soon after. Thom Merrilin feels that he is responsible for Owyn's death and this is why he hates the Red Ajah
