Parting the Silk is a sword form.

Description[]

Parting the Silk is a form often used at the beginning of battle. It is also used to practice balance.

In practice[]

Lan Mandragoran told Rand al'Thor to use this form to train his balance.[1] Later, when chasing after Padan Fain and the Horn of Valere, Rand practices with this form.[2] During the duel between Rand and High Lord Turak Aladon, one of them uses Parting the Silk while the opposing side countered with The Swallow Takes Flight.[3] In the battle in the sky over Falme, Rand initiates with Parting the Silk against Ba'alzamon, "but Ba'alzamon beat every cut aside."[4] Rand also used this form against Be'lal in the Stone of Tear.[5] While training in Caemlyn, one of Rand's sparring partners tried to use Parting the Silk, however Rand broke through with The Boar Rushes Down the Mountain.[6] After side-stepping and moving into Eamon Valda's initial attack, Galadedrid Damodred used this form as his first strike. Valda took a gash down his right forearm as a result.[7] After unsheathing his sword, Gawyn Trakand used Parting the Silk non-leathally against Gareth Bryne's soldiers when he tried to gain access to the war camp.[8]
