"Everyone thinks they know the Prophecy of Rhuidean, but what they know is what Wise Ones and clan chiefs have told them for generations. Not lies, but not the whole truth. The truth might break the strongest man. In this case, the whole truth, the truth known only to Wise Ones and clan chiefs before this, is that you are our doom. Our doom, and our salvation. Without you, no one of our people will live beyond the Last battle. Perhaps not even until the Last Battle. That is prophecy, and truth. With you..."
—Bair on The Prophecy of Rhuidean

Description[]

The Prophecy of Rhuidean, the Aiel Prophecy, tells of the coming of the car'a'carn, the chief of chiefs, and He Who Comes With The Dawn. The prophecy is a compilation of foretellings and dreams by Wise Women. This man is destined to unite, destroy, and save a remnant of the Aiel.

Prophecy[]

"It is said there will be great signs and portents of his coming. He will come from the west, beyond the Spine of the World, but be of our blood. He will go to Rhuidean, and lead us out of the Three-Fold Land. Under this sign, he will conquer."
—Urien of the Two Spires sept of the Reyn Aiel on He Who Comes With The Dawn[1]
"Prophecy says when the Stone of Tear falls, we will leave the Three-Fold Land at last. it says we will be changed, and find again what was ours, and was lost.[2]"
—Gaul of the Imran sept of the Shaarad Aiel, Shae'en M'taal on He Who Comes With The Dawn[3]
"We seek the one foretold, He Who Comes With The Dawn."
"He will lead us out of the Three-Fold Land. The prophecies say he was born of
Far Dareis Mai."

—Bain and Chiad on He Who Comes With The Dawn[4]
"...the Wise Ones say he to be found here, beyond the Dragonwall. 'Blood of our blood mixed with the old blood, raised by an ancient blood not ours.'"
—Aviendha on He Who Comes With The Dawn[4]
"No. That one will come later. The stone that never falls will fall to announce his coming. Of the blood, but not raised by the blood, he will come from Rhuidean at dawn and tie you together with bonds you cannot break. He will take you back, and he will destroy you."
   — One of the last two Aes Sedai with the Jenn Aiel told to Charendin, an Aiel sept chief.[5]
"He shall spill out the blood of those who call themselves Aiel as water on sand, and he shall break them as dried twigs, yet a remnant of a remnant shall he save, and they shall live."
—Bair on He Who Comes With The Dawn[6]

Fulfillment[]

Stone that never falls[]

The blood[]

He will come from the west[]

He Who Comes With The Dawn[]

  • Rand will return from Rhuidean after seven days and approach the Aiel encampment at dawn.

Bonds you cannot break[]

  • The Aiel existence around Ji'e'toh forces them to follow Rand for their own honor. Also, he unites the eleven clans into an Aiel nation before they cross the Dragonwall.

He will take you back, and he will destroy you[]

  • He leads the united Aiel across the Dragonwall in order to pursue the Shaido and with a mission to unite the nations under him before the Last Battle.
  • Rand reveals the secret hidden within Rhuidean, that the Aiel were originally called Da'shain Aiel and followed the Way of the Leaf
  • The Pattern weaves events that lead to the near annihilation of the Shaido against Rand, Perrin, and the Seanchan after they reject him as the car'a'carn.
  • When the Aiel were included in The Dragon's Peace, they were forbidden to fight each other. By taking war out of the Aiel life, the Peace has completely destroyed the 'old' Aiel, and replaced it by the 'new', more peaceful, Aiel. This might be a symbolic interpretation of the foreseen destruction.

A remnant of a remnant shall he save, and they shall live[]

  • This may refer to the future that Aviendha saw upon her second trip through the glass column ter'angreal in Rhuidean, in which her descendants lost their honor and their identity as Aiel as they fought the Seanchan, until eventually only a handful of feral people remained. This was subverted by her interaction with the ter'angreal, and possibly precipitated by her interaction with Nakomi. It was also subverted when Aviendha was instructed to change the name of one of her future children in order to prove that the future she saw could be changed.
