Rolan is a Mera'din that has joined the Shaido Aiel.

He is tall with wide shoulders. He has blue eyes.

He is part of the Shaido raiding group that capture Faile Bashere, Morgase Trakand and Alliandre Maritha Kigarin and make them Gai'shain. He carries Faile to the camp of the Shaido spanking her bottom to keep her awake, something Faile welcomes in the depths of her exhausted, frost-bitten, half sleep. Rolan has a special interest in Faile after she is made Gai'shain by Sevanna, coming to her aid a number of times in her favor.

He overhears Faile's plan to escape but doesn't seem to worry, telling her that a number of the mera'din are planning on returning to the Waste. He continues to try and court her in the Aiel fashion and plans on helping her escape. He comes to help rescue Faile when she is trapped in the burnt out old building. However when Perrin Aybara comes to rescue his wife he smashes Rolan in the face with his hammer.
