Salidar Six
From A Wheel of Time Wiki
The Salidar Six is an informal name given by fans to the six Aes Sedai who orchestrated the core of the Rebel Aes Sedai in the abandoned village of Salidar. These women are:
- Sheriam Bayanar - of the Blue Ajah and former Mistress of Novices under Siuan Sanche. Undoubtedly the leader of the group and the strongest in the One Power among them. Installed herself as Keeper under Egwene al'Vere, presumably with the intention of being able to steer Egwene according to the will of the Salidar Six. Sheriam was one of the three Aes Sedai who appeared in the Rebel Hall of the Tower to put Egwene forward as Amyrlin.
- Anaiya - also of the Blue Ajah. Seems to be someone that many Blues listen to. It has been speculated that she was First Selector of the Blue Ajah, but there is no hard evidence for this. She was murdered by Arangar
- Myrelle Berengari - of the Green Ajah. She is fairly young for an Aes Sedai - only raised to the shawl fifteen years ago - but has risen very far. She is strong in the One Power and managed to become Captain-General in the rebel camp. Myrelle was one of the three Aes Sedai who appeared in the Rebel Hall of the Tower to put Egwene forward as Amyrlin - which has significance because she is the Head of the Green Ajah.
- Beonin Marinye - of the Grey Ajah. Although one of the sisters that helped organise the rebels in the first place, she was an agent for Elaida. She is now in the White Tower, where she shared many secrets that were the monopoly of the Rebel Aes Sedai, including Travelling. She is, however, still subject to the oaths she swore to Egwene.
- Morvrin - of the Brown Ajah. She is a lot older than the others, the only one of them to have greying hair. Morvrin was one of the three Aes Sedai who appeared in the Rebel Hall of the Tower to put Egwene forward as Amyrlin. This may have significance in that Myrelle was the Head of the Green Ajah and Sheriam is strong in the Power and Egwene's intended Keeper, indicating that Morvrin may be on the Brown Ajah Council or even First Chair.
- Carlinya - of the White Ajah.
[edit] Activities
After the Tower Coup, these six sisters organised the gathering at Salidar and established themselves as the leaders of the rebellion. At this point, they enjoyed considerable influence.
After Siuan's return, she convinced them that they must give rebellion credibility by electing their own Hall of the Tower and their own Amyrlin. The Hall was elected first, new Sitters being elected to replace those that remained loyal to the Elaida and the White Tower. While none of the Salidar Six were became Sitters (presumably to avoid personal liability), Myrelle, at least, managed to become Head of her Ajah - a role that is not public and would never be betrayed.
After much discussion, Egwene was selected by these women to be their representative for Amyrlin because:
- She was strong in the power.
- She was not in the Tower at the time of the coup.
- She was someone they thought they could control.
- They did not wish to become sidelined if Lelaine or Romanda became Amyrlin.
At this time, these six women also hired Gareth Bryne to build them an army. It is also these six who ended up trying to learn the secrets of Tel'aran'rhiod and who sent the Rebel Spies to Tar Valon
In the beginning, they dictated what Egwene should do and agree to in the Hall. With the help of Siuan, however, Egwene gradually became free of their influence. In addition, the estimation of the Salidar Six among the other sisters began to lessen.
Using the knowledge of the rebel spies in the Tower as leverage, the Salidar Six were forced to secretly swear fealty to Egwene as long as she remained Amyrlin. This, and the increasing power of the rebel Hall of the Tower, reduced their influence considerably with Egwene and the sisters.
Under Egwene's insistence, they were able to get themselves nominated as representatives for each of their Ajahs on Egwene's Council. Their offical position was that of advisors to the Amyrlin.
[edit] Current Status
Three out of the original Salidar Six - Myrelle, Morvrin, Carlinya - remain among the rebel camp. Since Egwene's capture, they do not have any power because there is no Amyrlin to advise.
Sheriam also remains in the rebel camp, though she still retains her role as Keeper, presumably with the responsibilities and limited authority associated with it.
Anaiya was murdered by Aran'gar.
Beonin defected to the White Tower.
