Great Seals

The Great Seals are seven Cuendillar discs, each bearing the ancient symbol of the Aes Sedai (a white teardrop and a black teardrop conjoined). They hold the Dark One in his prison.
When the forces of the Shadow were about to overrun the forces of Light and defeat seemed only months away, Lews Therin, along with his Hundred Companions, decided to execute their dangerous plan to reseal the Bore that allowed the Dark One to touch the earth. Creating seven cuendillar discs, that roughly translate as focus points, he and ten thousand war men opened a gateway and put the seven seals in place, locking away the Dark One and the thirteen Forsaken.

After the Breaking of the World, the Aes Sedai at Tar Valon became the watchers of the seals, indeed, one of the contemporary Amyrlin's titles is "Watcher of the Seals". They had possession of the discs and when the Dragon was reborn they intended to be there with the seals for the Dark One's prison. But the seals were later lost during the Trolloc Wars and remained lost for centuries.
Recently, since Rand al'Thor has declared himself the Dragon Reborn, the seals have begun to resurface, and are no longer invulnerable.
[edit] Status of the Seals
Chronologically:
- During the excursion to the Eye of the World, one was found alongside the Horn of Valere and the Dragon Banner. It is broken.
- One was bought by Bayle Domon from a Saldean antiques dealer, but was confiscated by the Seanchan Turak. It was broken sometime during the battle at Falme.
- Turak already had one in his antiquities collection; it too was broken during the battle.
- One was found by Moiraine Damodred in the Great Holding in the Stone of Tear. It is intact.
- Moiraine found another in Rhuidean. It is scratched but otherwise intact.
- The Panarch's museum in Tanchico held one, which Nynaeve al'Meara recovered. It was broken during the journey to Salidar.
- The last was apparently found in a farmhouse in Saldea, and given to Rand al'Thor by Mazrim Taim. It is intact.
