Did Machin Shin on my Wii's internet channel, so I apologize already if it is mangled beyond salvaging. I'm thinking that this needs a section on the interaction with Padan Fain and then machin shin's resulting obsession with Rand al'Thor. Also, maybe at the start of the article could be a quote of whatever ghastly thing it is that machin shin constantly whispers/screams at people. It's just too tough for me to do on the Wii's Opera browser, even with a keyboard. Sorry :( --DanceTheSpears 10:29, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Origins[]

Hm. I'd always seen it reasoned that Machin Shin was an offshoot of Mashadar, seeping through the Waygate in Shadar Logoth. Personally, I'd think it's a combination of the Taint's influence on the Ways and Mashadar oozing around the Gate...which would explain why it resembles Mashadar so much, and why it didn't harm Fain (both of them are half-way servants; part Dark One evil, part Shadar Logoth evil).

Also, as housekeeping (since I don't want to register), could somebody fix the origin section's formatting? There's an italics bleed in the opening, and it lists three possible origins despite the opening saying there are only two. Not big things, but things. 129.237.90.15 05:32, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I really like the theory of Mashadar bleeding into the Ways to for Machin Shin. I don't know why that never occurred to me, but it makes a lot of sense, especially considering Padan Fain's affinity to Machin Shin.--DoctorNordo 07:08, November 11, 2009 (UTC)
    • I'm not really sure about this theory of origins. There are several kinds of "evil" in the world and Padan Fain is as mention above a mix of Dark One and Shadar Logoth into a larger evil. I think Machin Shin feels his evil and madness, notices it's more than it can handle and fled from him.80.216.199.203 00:39, December 10, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed- Mashadar must be the origin of Machin Shin none of the other theories is consistent with the passage of time in the WOT.Bertrand De Horn

What about the possibility that Machin Shin was created because of the blight? There are waygates in the blight and the blight currups anything alive inside of its area, son since the ways are alive, they might have been effected that way. It could also explain Padan Fain's affinity for it as he was once a hound of the dark one.
