Summary[]

Point of view: Cadsuane Melaidhrin

Cadsuane is eavesdropping on Sarene Nemdahl as she interrogates Semirhage and still frustrated over the lack of progress in breaking her. She considers once again how she would break herself. Semirhage knocks her noon meal, a plate of beans, onto the floor. Cadsuane knocks Semirhage to the floor and begins to spank her. She has the other Sisters come in to watch as well as some of the maids. Extreme threats from the Forsaken ensue but Cadsuane ignores them. She continues the humiliating spanking until Semirhage finally eats the beans off the floor. She has found a way to break her.

Point of view: Perrin Aybara

Perrin is worried over the logistics of bringing a hundred thousand refugees home. Neald and Grady are too tired to make Gateways. It would take days to send home the people that are willing to leave and they can't hold a Gateway for more than an hour until they are rested. So they continue north by foot. Perrin ponders his bond to the wolves and remembers how close he came to killing Hopper in the Wolf Dream. He wonders if his fate will be the same as a Wolf brother he freed long ago that had lost all of his humanity. He decides it is time to return to the Wolf Dream and stop evading his responsibilities.
