Setting: The city of Tear and surrounding countryside

Point of view: Perrin Aybara

Perrin finishes packing and heads toward the stables, joined by Gaul. Perrin is afraid Moiraine will try to prevent him from leaving so he tries to keep his preparations secret and takes back passages on his way to meet Loial. At the stables they find Bain and Chiad have joined Faile. Perrin is still at odds with Faile over her coming on the trip to the Two Rivers. They will travel the Ways as two groups with Perrin following.

As the party finishes their preparations in the stables the Stone rang like a monstrous bell, shaking the ground and walls around them. The group gallops out the city gate and Loial leads them to the Waygate. Loial moans over the loss of the grove of trees that the Tairens cut down to make a grassland for their horses. Perrin and Gaul go through the Waygate and on to the first guiding where they will wait for Loial and the rest of the party to join them.
