Tsumata is strikingly beautiful, with black hair and a full bosom. She tends to wear lots of jewellery.

She is flamboyant and given to indulging herself with luxury and rare and expensive items. It is unclear whether this is how she has always been or this is a result of spending so many years working on a farm with only her basic needs fulfilled.
She approached Moiraine Damodred on the subject of who was to inherit the Sun Throne after the death of Laman Damodred, asking whether Moiraine had ever thought of becoming Queen herself.
She was a Sitter until she was exiled by Marith Jaen in NE 985 for her role in gentling male channelers outside of the White Tower.

Elaida invited her, along with Toveine Gazal and Lirene Doirellin, back to the White Tower after their long exile.
Elaida thinks that Tsutama had become nervous-eyed after her years of hard labour. This is far from the truth. For, in fact, she came back more ruthless than ever. She bided her time and then attacked
Tsumata was elected to Highest of the Red Ajah due to Galina Casban's disappearance. Along with Pevara Tazanovni and Javindhra Doraille, she agrees to the plan of allowing Red Sisters to bond Asha'man as Warders. Pevara, Javindhra, Desala Nevanche, Jezrail, Melare and Tarna Feir are sent to the Black Tower to put the proposition to the Asha'man, although many Red Sisters are still unwilling to bond Warders.
