Min's viewings
From A Wheel of Time Wiki
Min Farshaw's ability to discern elements of the future has led to a wealth of foreshadowing as to what could happen next. Below is a collected list of Min's viewings, both completed and yet unresolved.

[edit] The Eye of the World
“Sparks swirling around you, thousands of them, and a big shadow, darker than midnight. The sparks are trying to fill the shadow, and the shadow is trying to swallow the sparks. You are all tied together in something dangerous.”
To Rand: “Egwene's part of it. You're in love with her. She loves you, too, but she's not for you, or you for her. Not the way you both want. When I look at her, I see the same as when I look at Mistress Alys [Moiraine]. She won't refuse it.”
- Egwene has become Aes Sedai and Gawyn Trakand has fallen for her. Rand has captured the hearts of Min, Elayne, and Aviendha.
“A wolf, and a broken crown, and trees flowering all around Perrin.”
- Elyas Machera showed Perrin how to talk to wolves. In The Shadow Rising,[1] Perrin marries Faile Bashere, cousin to Queen Tenobia of Saldaea - and the symbol of Saldaea is a broken crown. Trees flowering has not been fullfilled yet.
Mat: “A red eagle, an eye on a balance scale, a dagger with a ruby, a horn, and a laughing face.”
- The red eagle is the symbol for Manetheren, of which Mat has memories. He took a ruby-hilted dagger from Shadar Logoth, and sounded the Horn of Valere at Falme.[2] The meaning of the laughing face is unclear.
To Rand: “A sword that isn't a sword, a golden crown of laurel leaves, a beggar's staff, you pouring water on sand, a bloody hand and white-hot iron, three women standing over a funeral bier with you on it, black rock wet with blood, lightning around you, some striking at you, some coming out of you. You and I will meet again.”
- The sword is Callandor, and the crown is the Crown of Swords. Rand lost his left hand when he was attacked by Semirhage with fire[3]. Rand caused rain in the Aiel Waste at the end of The Shadow Rising[4]. The lightning may refer to fighting with the One Power.
The bloody hand and white-hot iron might also refer to the heron-mark left by the hot sword on his hand, after fighting Baalzamon at Falme.
Thom: “A man — not him — juggling fire, and the White Tower.”
Nynaeve: “She's part of it, right along with the rest of you...The sparks, Rand. She met [Moiraine] coming in, and there were sparks, with just the two of them. Yesterday I couldn't see sparks without at least three or four of you together, but today it's all sharper, and more furious. You're all in more danger today than yesterday. Since she came.”
- This indicates that Naynaeve is tied up fighting the Shadow along with the rest of them; also, that Padan Fain has followed her to get closer to Rand.
[edit] The Great Hunt
Elayne Trakand: “She will have to share her husband with two other women and she will be a queen. A severed hand, not hers.”
- Elayne does indeed become Queen of Andor, and shares Rand with Min and Aviendha. The severed hand seems to be Rand's.
Egwene: “A white flame and other things.”
- Later, Egwene became Amyrlin Seat of the rebel Aes Sedai.
Galad Damodred: “He will always do what is right, no matter who it hurts.”
- This seems to be simply a description of Galad's personality.
Galad: “He will hurt someone to serve a greater good and not even notice.”
- To protect Elayne and Nynaeve, Galad kills a large number of the Prophet's men in Samara[5]
Egwene, Nynaeve, and Elayne: “Danger. You are all in some kind of danger. Or you will be, very soon...I think [Liandrin] has to come as much as the rest of you. The rest of us. I can see the danger around all of you more clearly, now.”
- Liandrin, a member of the Black Ajah, turns the girls over to Seanchan Darkfriends to be made damane.
“I've read you, Egwene.... I see things I am sure link you to Rand, and Perrin, and Mat, and - yes, even Galad”
“A man's ring of heavy gold floated above Nynaeve's head”
- Lan gives Nynaeve his signet ring as a symbol of his love.
“Above Elayne's, a red-hot iron and an axe.”
[edit] The Dragon Reborn
Leya: “The Tinker woman is going to die. I saw her own face floating over her shoulder, covered in blood, eyes staring.”
- Leya dies during the Trolloc attack on the Two Rivers in The Shadow Rising.
Perrin:“An Aielman in a cage. A Tuatha'an with a sword. A falcon and a hawk, perching on your shoulders. Both female, I think”
- Later in the book, Perrin rescues Gaul, an Aiel, from a cage and meets Faile Bashere, whose name means 'falcon' in the Old Tongue. He meets Berelain in The Shadow Rising; Berelain is the First of Mayene, and is usually represented by a hawk in prophecies. Faile and Berelain end up fighting over Perrin. Finally, in The Shadow Rising, Aram (a Tinker) takes up a sword and follows Perrin.
[edit] The Shadow Rising
- Min saw signs of death and suffering around several Aes Sedai, Warders, and servants; during Elaida's coup, quite a few people were killed in battle.
- She saw silver collars around a few Aes Sedai. Several Aes Sedai are made damane in later books.
Sheriam:“her face seemed battered and bruised.”
- Sheriam is beaten up by someone, perhaps Aran'gar, at the rebel Aes Sedai camp[6]
Gawyn Trakand: “streaks of dried blood had made his face a grim mask. He was going to be wounded on the day the Aes Sedai died. He was going to be hurt more than the blood told, hurt somehow deeper than wounds to his flesh...that bloody mask again. More: a sword floated above his head, and a banner waved behind it. The long-hilted sword, like those most Warders used, had a heron engraved on its slightly curved blade, symbol of a blademaster, and Min could not say whether it belonged to Gawyn or threatened him. The banner bore Gawyn's sigil of the charging White Boar, but on a field of green rather than the red of Andor.”
- Gawyn is indeed injured in the coup, and he manages to kill two Warders. The sword represents his becoming ever more proficient a fighter, while the banner is the sign of the Younglings. Gawyn and the Younglings side with Elaida, which causes emotional pain to Gawyn, since he is in love with Egwene.
Leane: “A transparent mask of her own face, a screaming mask.” Siuan: “she was lying on the floor, naked. Aside from her being in only her skin, there was something odd about the image. She has no idea what it means.”
- Both are stilled later in the book, which makes their faces look subtly different.
Logain Ablar:“a flaring halo around his head, radiant in gold and blue. It shouted of glory and power to come.”
- It is thought by many fans that Logain will become M'Hael, but so far he has not attained any noticeable glory.
“Gawyn kneeling at Egwene's feet with his head bowed, and Gawyn breaking Egwene's neck, first one then the other, as if either could be the future. She had never seen that fluttering back and forth, as though not even the viewing could tell which would be the true future. Worse, she had a feeling near to certainty that it was what she had done this day that had turned Gawyn toward those two possibilities.”
- Since Gawyn serves Elaida, this likely represents the choice he will have to make of fighting Egwene, or joining her.
[edit] The Fires of Heaven
Sheriam: “Rays of silver and blue flashed about her fiery hair, and a soft golden light; Min could not say what it meant.”
Carlinya: “an image of a raven floating beside her dark hair; more a drawing of the bird than the bird itself. She thought it was a tattoo, but she did not know its meaning.”
- A raven tattoo indicates that one is the property of the Seanchan Empress; this prophecy is so far unfulfilled.
Edesina: “a silvery collar suddenly appeared, snug around the woman's neck, and as suddenly seemed to shatter. She did not like viewings connected to the Seanchan. At least Edesina would escape somehow.”
- Edesina is later made damane and forced to wear the silver collar of an a'dam[7]; Mat rescues her in Winter's Heart[8].
“When Bryne came in, I had a viewing. An aura, and a bull ripping roses from around its neck and... None of it matters except the aura. I didn't really understand that, but more than anything else. If you want to stay alive, you had better stay close to him. If he stays close to you, you live. If he gets too far away, for too long, you are going to die. Both of you. I don't know why I should have seen anything about you in his aura, but you seemed like part of it”
- The sign of house Bryne is a bull with the rose crown of Andor around its neck, so this viewing indicates that Bryne has left his role as general of Andor to command the rebel Aes Sedai army.
“Those three you brought with you [Marigan, Areina, and Nicola] are trouble” (To Egwene)
- In Knife of Dreams, it is revealed that Nicola and Areina were responsible for betraying Egwene to the Tower Aes Sedai. Marigan, meanwhile, was Moghedien in disguise; she tried to undermine Egwene a little bit, but did not seem to accomplish anything major during her captivity.
“Elayne says to Min, "You saw that we are going to fall in love." Min replies, "Not exactly. I saw you'd fall in love with him [Rand]. I don't know what he feels for you, only that he's tied to you in some way." "And you saw there would be someone else. Someone I'd have to...share...him with." "Two. Two others. And....And I'm one."”
- Elayne and Min are indeed both in love with Rand; Aviendha is the third woman.
[edit] Lord of Chaos
- She saw that Aes Sedai, or at least women capable of channeling, would hurt Rand. In the last chapter, a group of Tower Aes Sedai kidnap and torture Rand until Perrin and Mazrim Taim come to the rescue.
- She saw that Perrin had found his falcon, an trouble would arise when the hawk appeared. Perrin was married to Faile at this point, and Berelain would later cause him considerable grief by trying to get him for herself.
- She saw that Rand, Bera Sedai, and Kiruna Sedai would be involved in an event of great blood, violence, and the One Power. Later in the book, these two Aes Sedai help save Rand from the White Tower at the battle of Dumai's Wells.

[edit] The Eye of the World
- She saw trees flowering all around Perrin.
- She saw an eye on a scale and a laughing face around Mat. The eye seems to indicate that he will lose an eye at some point, perhaps as payment for rescuing Moiraine.
“Seven ruined towers around Lan's head, and a babe in a cradle holding a sword.”
- The Seven Towers refers to Malkier. In Knife of Dreams,[9] Lan sets off on a quest to revive Malkier from the Blight. It has been speculated that the babe in the cradle refers to Lan's past, but Jordan has stated that Min's viewings always refer to the future, not the past.
- Around Rand, she saw a beggar's staff, three women standing over a funeral pyre with Rand on it, and a black rock wet with blood. The black rock is likely a reference to the prophecy about the Dragon's blood on the rocks of Shayol Ghul freeing mankind from the Shadow. The three women are probably herself, Elayne, and Aviendha, and implies that Rand will die at some point.
[edit] The Great Hunt
- She saw a red-hot iron and an axe around Elayne. This seems to indicate trouble at some point in the future.
[edit] The Shadow Rising
- She saw an aura that spoke of great glory to come for Logain Ablar. Likely he will take over command of the Asha'man once Taim is revealed formally as a traitor, however this is unconfirmed.
- She saw two alternating images around Gawyn - one of him breaking Egwene's neck, the other of him kneeling to Egwene. Since he serves Elaida, this likely represents the choice he will have to make of fighting Egwene, or joining her.
[edit] The Fires of Heaven
- She saw a tattoo of a raven around Carlinya Sedai. This appears to have something to do with the Seanchan, or the Dark One. It should be noted that a tattoo of a raven denotes Imperial ownership according to Seanchan custom.
- She saw a soft golden aura with rays of blue and silver around Sheriam Sedai.
- She saw that Siuan Sanche and Gareth Bryne would have to stay close together, otherwise both would die.
[edit] Lord of Chaos
- She saw a wreath around the Maiden of the Spear Enaila[10]; this appears to be the Aiel marriage wreath, but the result has not been shown to come to pass yet.
- She saw millions of fireflies around Rand, being swallowed up by a great shadow.
- She saw that Melaine would give birth to a pair of identical twins.
- When Rand and Perrin were together, Min saw the same image with the fireflies and shadow, but this time the fireflies were holding their own. This seems to indicate that Rand on his own cannot win Tarmon Gai'don, but with Perrin's help, he stands an even chance.
- She saw that Perrin would have to save Rand's life twice. The first time occurred at the end of Lord of Chaos, when Perrin saved Rand from the Tower Aes Sedai. The other occasion is so far unfulfilled.
- She saw that Berelain would fall head over heels for a man in white. This is probably a Whitecloak, and many fans believe is Galad Damodred. It has also been speculated that this man could be a Gai'shain
